From The Picken's Chapel NewsOur community was made sad the past week on account of one of our neighborhood's oldest citizens, J.E. Barton's death. Mr. Barton has been ill for a little over a year. Spending part of the time in a Little Rock hospital, and also some time in the Wakenight Hospital at Searcy. Being treated by Dr. A.L. Spain, the family doctor, also Dr. Rogers of Searcy and Dr. Jones of Little Rock. Everything being done for him seemingly that was possible to do by human hands, but God, in his wisdom, saw fit to call him home. He bore his suffering and long lillness with patience, never complaining, for it was not his nature to worry, and many times during his illness, testified to the fact that he was ready to go when the call came. He passed away about 9 A.M., Wednesday , February 18. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church at Mt. Pisgah, where he held his membership for a number of years, conducted by Rev. A.F. Daniels, former pastor of the Nazarene Church where he attended church, until he was disabled. Rev. Mr. Daniels was assisted by Rev. George Knight, present pastor of the Nazarene Church at Picken's Chapel, also Rev. Loy Jones and Rev. Lusk, both of Beebe, and former pastors at Picken's Chapel. The singing was in charge of Thomas E. Lawson of Searcy, also former pastor, assisted by the Picken's Chapel Male Quartet. He was laid to rest in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The Ernest E. Chandler Funeral Home was in charge of burial services. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, Mrs. Bertha Barton; one son, Lester Barton of Little Rock; and five girls, Mrs. Tom Gray of Vilonia, Mrs. E.D. Captaine of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, and the Misses Flossie, Josie, and Lois Barton of this place; two grandchildren, James Harrell Barton, Letona, and Inez Floyd of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; one brother, Haywood Barton of Armstrong Springs; one sister, Mrs. Douglas Adkins of Letona, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family have our deepest sympathy.
