1. Thomas Barton was born before 1685 in ? 1 and died before 22 Apr 1730 in Gunpowder Hund., Baltimore Co., MD.2

Text file for Thomas Barton Baltimore County, Maryland tax lists for 1700 through 1705 show Thomas was living north of the Gunpowder River. There is a reference to his will, supposed to have been written in Baltimore County in 1730. In it, he mentions his widow Abigail, daughters Elizabeth and Ann, and sons John, James and Thomas Jr.

WILL OF THOMAS BARTON - 1730
In the name of God Amen the sixth day of January in the year of our Lord 1730.
I Thomas Barton of Baltimore County in the Province of Maryland, Planter, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make & ordain this my last will & testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the Hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly to state wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise & dispose of the same in the following manner & form.
Imprimis I give and bequeath to Abigal my dearly beloved wife one hundred acres of land for her life and at her decease to equally divided between Thomas Barton and John Barton and fifty more I give to my Son James Barton joyning upon John Norris I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Barton one feather bed and likewise to Ann Barton to be delivered at the day of Marriage and like each on them one Cow and Calf. I do hereby utterly revoke and disannull all other former testaments wills legacies bequests & executors by me in any ways before this time named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have herunto set my hand & seal the day and year above written.

On the aforegoing will was the following endorsement, Viz.. Prerogative Office 22 April 1730 Ordered by his Honour the Commissary General that the Depty Comm of Baltimore County take the probate of the within will by the evidences thereto subscribed in such manner as said evidences will depose to avail so far as in Law and Right it ought. Test John Gibson Regt
And on the back of the aforegoing will was thus written Balt Coty May 22, 1730 came John Norris one of the subscribing evidences to the within will and made oath on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that the testator Thomas Barton desired him to sign the said will as an evidence but did not see the said testator sign seal nor deliver it as his act and deed. Sworn to before: Tho Sheredine, D. Com. Balt. Co.

Thomas married Abigail before 1710 in Baltimore Co., MD.3 Abigail was born about 1690 in Unk 4 and died after 6 Aug 1746 in Gunpowder Hund., Baltimore Co., MD.2

ABIGALL BARTON TO ALIE (OR ALCE) HORN = GIFT = To all Christian people to whom this present writing shall come, I Abigall Barton, wido of Baltimore County, Maryland send greeting. Know ye that I, the said Abigall Barton for the naturall love, good will and affection which I have and bear toward my Granddaughter, Alie Horn, have given granted by these presents do freely clearly and absolutely give and grant unto said Alie Horn her heirs, est.. adm. and assigns one bay mare now properly my own, one featherbed, boulster and pillow, two ruggs and two blankets, one black leather trunk one box iron and two heaters, four pewter basons (sic) one pewter dish, two pewter --------, ---------, ------- pewter spoons, one side saddle, one iron pott and pott hooks, one skillet, two stone mugs and one cow and calf to have and to hold ------ and enjoy unto the said Alie Horn to the only possession and behoofs. To the said Alie Horn her heirs and assigns forever such effects the full value thereof. Thomas Horn father to the said Alie Horn is to deliver up to his said daughter at her marriage freely presented and quietly without any manner of claim, challenge, contradiction of me the said Abigall Barton my heirs or assigns or of any other person or persons whatsoever by any means ---------------------------------- on any manner or with and without any account receiving or ----- therefore unto me or any in my name to be given, received or don in -------to ------ ------ the said Abigall Barton ----- and other person or persons whatselves by me or other person ----------- may ------- claim, challenge or demand ----- to the promises of any part thereof any interest, rights, title, use or possession only as above set forth on behalf of the said Alie Horn but from all action of right, title, claim, interest, use, possession and demand thereof ---- my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to be utterly excluded and forever debarred by these presents.
