43. William BARTON

Although William is the oldest son of the 2nd marriage, he was not the heir. The heir was the eldest son of the first marriage, Gilbert Barton.

On p 31 the deed shows Christofer Barton (William's father) and his two wives had issue: four sons and four daughters.

Living in 1520.

Ancestral File: William Barton, born abt 1486 at Barton, Preston, Lancashire, England. Parents are Christopher Barton and Margaret Singleton. (Ordinance Record shows William born about 1846).

4 Jul 1499: Gilbert's parents gave 100li. to have the wardship and marriage of Gilbert, son and heir, then under age.

Lancashire Pedigrees by Robert Parker 1681 p 30 states Gilbert died [living?] about 21: Hen: 5, but this must refer to his grandfather Gilbert [1533]

Gilbert's Inq. post mortems were in 1520 (2 of them) and 1521.

Margaret Rigmayden

Margaret, daughter of John Rigmayden of Wedacre, survived her husband Gilbert (who died just prior to 4 Nov 1516) and was afterwards wife to Francis Morley of Wennington before 1518, when she put in a claim to dower in Barton.


51. Thomas BARTON Esquire

The heir. Manor of Barton.

Lease to Sir John Warren, knight, during the minority of Thomas Barton of lands etc in Barton late in the possession of Richard Singleton. Dated 4 Nov 1516. p 88. Thomas attained the age of 21 on 11 Jul 1534, p 31.

Thomas received a dispensation to marry though related in the fourth degree, on 9 Oct 1533, p 31.

Spelling sometimes found Matild, Maud.

Living in 1572.

52. Gilbert BARTON

Gilbert had a grant of an annuity of 3li. out of Kidsnape, 12 Mar 1560-61, and was named in the Preston Guild of 1562.

Grandson Henry Barton's will 21 Nov 1587 directs his wife Elizabeth to pay Isabell Corles his grandmother L3 yearly during her life.
