20. John BARTON

LINEAGE-MARRIAGE: John succeeded his grandfather John before 1356. His wife Denise was widow of John of Cuerdale, who died 15 Oct 1345, and as her dower they held part of the manor of Cuerdale and lands in Preston, etc.

LINEAGE-SON: In 1349 Richard of Alston released to John of Barton and Denise his wife all his lands in Over Darwen, which in 1371, John gave to Thoms his son.

In 1361 Robert of Singleton released to John his estate in Kidsnape. By 1369 John appointed trustees to his lands in Goosnargh, Whittingham, Billsborough, and Chipping.

5 Jun 1356: Conveyance to John of Barton & Denise his wife & to the heirs of John's body of all the lands that he held. (Death of John of Barton, husband of Katerine). p 62

1356: We may gather that his son John, the husband of Katerine Traver, was now dead. Sir John himself died soon after this date, as we find his grandson (this John) in possession of the estates in 1356. p 62

John was the heir to his grandfather Sir John of Barton. He succeeded his grandfather before 1356, when his feoffees granted to him and Denise his wife and the heirs of his body all the lands that they held of his gift in Barton. His wife Denise was widow of John of Cuerdale, who died 15 Oct 1345, held lands in Preston. In 1371 John gave to Thomas his son lands in Over Darwen.
