11. Sir John BARTON

Known as John of Barton "Sir" John was the heir of his father John Barton.

1323-24: Contract for the marriage of John son and heir of John of Barton to "Katerine" only child and heir of Sir John Travers.... p 53

Sir John conveyed (through feofee Sir John Travers) to his heir John and wife Katherine, his manor of Barton and 2 messuages and lands in Goosnargh; had a grant for his life for lands in Barton, Billsborough, and Goosnargh, with remainder to his four sons in tail male 18 Apr 1324.

The "tenements held in dower" are the lands held in dower for her life by Alice, mother of John of Barton, widow of John his father and now wife of Richard of Bury. P 60

1349: Gave to William of Barton (son), and remainder to his grandson John. p 64

DEATH: 1356: We may gather that his son John, the husband of Katherine Traver, was now dead. Sir John himself died soon after this date, as we find his grandson in possession of the estates in 1356.
